The Río Caine is a headwaters of the Río Grande in the eastern cordillera of the Bolivian Andes in South America .

course

The Río Caine arises 40 km south of the city of Cochabamba and east of the small town of Capinota at an altitude of 2350  m by the confluence of the 108 km long Río Rocha and the 88 km long Río Arque . From there it flows in a south-easterly direction as a border river between the Departamento Cochabamba and the Departamento Potosí .

During the rainy season from November to April, the river can swell dangerously, so there are no settlements directly in the valley. As a traffic route, the river's gravel road can only be used to a limited extent for vehicles with all-wheel drive in the dry season .

In the tri-border area of the departments of Cochabamba, Potosi and Chuquisaca , the Río Caine joins the Río San Pedro , the border river between the departments of Potosi and Chuquisaca, and then bears the name Río Grande for the following 1,168 km before it flows into the Río Mamoré and later when Rio Madeira merges into the Amazon .
