River course

The Río Macuma rises at an altitude of about 1100  m in a basin landscape between the Cordillera Real in the west and a sub-Andean mountain range in the east, 25 km northeast of the city of Macas . From there it initially flows almost 25 kilometers to the east. The Río Macuma then flows around a sub-Andean mountain ridge. It turns 40 km to the north, 2 km to the east and finally 40 km to the south again. Now he breaks through the Andean mountain range for the next 5 kilometers in an easterly direction and reaches the Amazon lowlands . The Río Macuma now flows towards east-southeast. The Río Pastaza runs 10 kilometers further north . At river kilometer 185 the settlement Macuma lies south of the river course of the Río Macuma. This cuts through a low ridge and later turns south and runs parallel to it. At river kilometer 155 the Río Cuzutco meets the Río Macuma on the left. Finally, the Río Macuma meets the Río Cangaime, 65 km above its junction with the Río Mangosiza to the Río Morona .
