The Río Raposo is an approximately 83 km long tributary of the Pacific Ocean in the department of Valle del Cauca in western Colombia .
River course
The Río Raposo has its source in the Western Cordillera . It initially flows 50 km in a predominantly north-northwest direction. At river kilometer 50 it reaches the western Colombian coastal lowlands. In the lower reaches he crosses this in a westerly direction. Mouth arms branch off to the left and right near the coast. The Río Raposo finally flows into a bay on the mangrove coast of the Pacific Ocean.
Hydrology and catchment area
The Río Raposo drains an area of about 350 km². In the south the catchment area borders on that of the Río Cajambre , in the north and east on that of the Río Anchicayá . In the eastern part of the catchment area of the Río Raposo lies the Parque Nacional Natural Farallones de Cali in the western cordillera .
The mean discharge is 177 m³ / s. The catchment area of the Río Raposo lies in the humid tropical zone. This is characterized by tropical rainforest . The temperatures are relatively constant over the year. Furthermore, the climate is characterized by heavy rainfall and high humidity. The months of September to November usually see the highest rainfall on the Colombian west coast. In addition, there is a less pronounced rainy season between April and June.
