The Río Sabanilla is a 30 km long right tributary of the Río Zamora in the province of Zamora Chinchipe in southeast Ecuador .

River course

The Río Sabanilla rises in the south of the Cordillera Real , 20 km south-southeast of the city of Loja . The course of the river begins in the mountain lake Laguna del Compadre, which is about 3180  m high . The Río Sabanilla initially flows 6 km in a north-northwest direction and then turns north and finally north-east. The Río Sabanilla finally flows 7 km west-northwest of the city of Zamora into the Río Zamora. The E50 trunk road (Loja – Zamora) crosses the river about one kilometer above its mouth. With the exception of the bottom three kilometers of the river, the catchment area of the Río Sabanilla is within the Podocarpus National Park .

Hydrology

The Río Sabanilla drains an area of ​​185 km² on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Real in southeast Ecuador. The mean discharge is 28.8 m³ / s.
