The Río Zamora is the right source river of the Río Santiago in the provinces of Loja , Zamora Chinchipe and Morona Santiago in the southeast of Ecuador . It has a length of about 260 km.
River course
The Río Zamora rises in the mountains southeast of the city of Loja at an altitude of about 2800 m . The Río Zamora initially flows through the town of Loja, located in a high valley, in a northerly direction. After 30 km the river turns to the southeast and flows through the eastern Andes for the next 40 km . Then the Río Zamora changes direction. The rest of the river flows in a north-northeast direction. The trunk road E45 (Loja - Macas ) follows the course of the river up to river kilometer 85. The mountain range of the Cordillera del Cóndor extends east of the river . Finally, the Río Zamora merges with the Río Namangoza coming from the north to form the Río Santiago. There are several cities and towns along the river, including Zamora , Zumbi , Yantzaza , Cumbaratza , Panguintza and Los Encuentros . Larger tributaries are the Río Sabanilla , Río Bombuscaro , Río Jamboé , Río Timbara and Río Nangaritza from the right and Río Vinoyacu , Río Yacuambi , Río Chicaña and Río Bomboiza from the left.
