The Río Bomboiza is a left tributary of the Río Zamora in the Morona Santiago province in southeast Ecuador .

River course

The Río Bomboiza arises at the confluence of the Río Cuchipamba (left) and Río Cuyes (right). It flows 18 km in an easterly direction and finally flows into the Río Zamora, which flows north. At river kilometer 16 the trunk road E45 (Zamora - Macas ) crosses the Río Bomboiza. Six kilometers downstream, the Río Bomboiza passes the small town of Gualaquiza, 4.5 km further north .

Catchment area

The 1490 km² catchment area of the Río Bomboiza extends along the eastern flank of the Cordillera Real in the southeast of Ecuador. It borders the catchment areas of the Río León and the Río Yacuambi to the west .

Fish fauna

The fish fauna of the Río Bomboiza includes Chaetostoma breve , an approximately 20 cm large representative of the mountain creek catfish .
