The Río Yacuambi is an 83 km long left tributary of the Río Zamora in the province of Zamora Chinchipe in southeastern Ecuador . In the upper reaches the river is also called Río Culebrillas , Río Espadillas , Río Zabala and Río Tutupali .

River course

The Río Yacuambi rises on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Real . The river begins in a small mountain lake at an altitude of around 3450  m . The Río Yacuambi flows mainly in a southerly direction through the mountains. For the lower 50 kilometers, a main road runs along the course of the river. At river kilometer 45 he passes the municipality 28 de Mayo . There are several villages and settlements, especially along the lower reaches. The Río Yacuambi leads finally 20 km north-northeast of Zamora in the Río Zamora. The trunk road E45 (Zamora - Macas ) crosses the river at La Saquea , just under 2 kilometers above the mouth. A few meters downstream there is a hanging bridge, a popular photo opportunity for tourists.

The Río Yacuambi drains an area of ​​about 1500 km² on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Real in southeast Ecuador.
