The Río Tarija is a river in the south of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

The Río Tarija has its starting point at the confluence of the Río Camacho and Río Nuevo Guadalquivir about 15 km below Tarija , the capital of the department. The starting point is in the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental about 50 km north of the border with Argentina at an altitude of 1674  m near the town of Valle de Concepción . From there, the Río Tarija flows in a south-easterly direction, joins the Río Itaú after 184 km at the Argentine border and from there bears the name Río Grande de Tarija up to its confluence with the Río Bermejo .
