Valle de Concepción (local short name: el Valle ) is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia and an important folklore center in the region.

Location in the vicinity

Valle de Concepción (formerly also: Uriondo ) is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uriondo and the administrative capital of the province of José María Avilés . The village is located at an altitude of 1710  m at the confluence of the Río Rochero and Río Camacho .

Geography and climate

Valle de Concepción is located in southern Bolivia on the eastern slopes of the eastern Andes mountain range at the transition to the mountains east of the Bolivian Andes and the Gran Chacos lowlands .

The mean average temperature of the region is 19 ° C (see climate diagram Tarija), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 14 ° C in June and July and 22 ° C in December to March. The annual precipitation is about 550 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation between 0 and 30 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation of about 120 mm.

Viticulture

Valle de Concepción is a main town on the wine route of the Tarija department. Extensive vine plantations can be seen everywhere along the streets outside of the town center and several wineries have their headquarters there. Every year a large wine festival ( Vendimia Chapaca or Fiesta de la Uva ) takes place here in autumn , with well-known groups from Bolivia and Argentina perform, including Los Kjarkas regularly . The town's wine bars are a popular destination all year round for residents of the capital Tarija and visitors from northern Argentina and the interior of the country.

Transport network

Valle de Concepción is located to the south at a distance of 25 kilometers by road from Tarija , the capital of the department.

From the capital Tarija, the paved road Ruta 1 leads southeast via La Pintada towards the cities of Padcaya and Bermejo . After seventeen kilometers at the “Cruce Concepcion”, an asphalt country road branches off to the west from the main road, after five kilometers it crosses the valley of the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir and after another three kilometers you reach the village of Valle de Concepción . From here the road continues up the Río Camacho to the villages of Chocloca , Juntas , Chaguaya , Cañas and Camacho .
