Camacho is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Camacho is the central place of the canton Camacho in the municipality Padcaya in the province of Aniceto Arce . The village is located at an altitude of 2193  m on the left bank of the Río Camacho , which flows 43 kilometers further downstream past the town of Valle de Concepción and flows into the Río Nuevo Guadalquivir , which is further down the river Tarija .

Camacho is located in southern Bolivia on the eastern slopes of the eastern Andes mountain range at the transition to the Bolivian lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 13 to 14 ° C (see Padcaya climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate between 9 ° C in June and July and 17 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is 630 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation well over 100 mm.

Transport network

Camacho is 68 kilometers by road south of Tarija , the capital of the department.

From the Tarija, the paved national road Ruta 1 leads southeast towards Padcaya and Bermejo . After seventeen kilometers from the main road, an asphalt country road branches off to the west, after five kilometers it crosses the valley of the Río Guadalquivir and after three more kilometers you reach the village of Valle de Concepción . From there, a dirt road leads in a south-westerly direction and reaches the village of Camacho after a further 46 kilometers via Chocloca , Juntas and Chaguaya .

The national road Ruta 28 runs through Camacho from Padcaya to Villazón . So far (as of 2020) Ruta 28 has been paved from Padcaya to Cañas , the rest of the way is unpaved.
