Juntas is a town in the Tarija Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Juntas is the central place of the canton Juntas in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Uriondo in the province of José María Avilés . The village is located at an altitude of 1889  m on the left bank of the Río Camacho , which flows further below the town of Valle de Concepción and flows into the Río Guadalquivir , which is named Río Tarija downstream .

Juntas is located in southern Bolivia on the eastern slopes of the eastern Andes mountain range at the transition to the Bolivian lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 19 ° C (see climate diagram Tarija), the monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 14 ° C in June and July and 22 ° C in December to March. The annual precipitation is about 550 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation between 0 and 30 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation of about 120 mm.

Transport network

Juntas is 47 kilometers by road south of Tarija , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Tarija the paved road Ruta 1 leads southeast towards the cities of Padcaya and Bermejo . After seventeen kilometers from the main road, the paved road Ruta 45 branches off to the west, after five kilometers it crosses the valley of the Río Guadalquivir and after three kilometers you reach the village of Valle de Concepción . From there it leads as a dirt road in a south-westerly direction via Chocloca to Juntas , there crosses the Río Camacho and continues via the villages of Chaguaya , San Miguel and Cañas to Mecoya on the Bolivian border with Argentina .
