The Röthepfuhl is a 5,000 m² lake in Teltow , a town in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg .

location

The lake in the Teltower district of Ruhlsdorf borders on Güterfelder Strasse to the south and Röthepfuhlweg to the east. It is embedded in a green area that is around 11,000 m² in size. The Röthepfuhl has no inflow; however, there is a connection to another pond in a wetland to the northwest of the lake. Excess water, for example during a thaw in spring, is channeled through this ditch into the second body of water.

history

The naming goes back to the 14th century. According to tradition, it was flax farmers from Ruhlsdorf who put their harvest into the water to soak. This loosened the fibers in the stalks, giving the water a reddish-brown color. The subsequent drying of the fibers is called “roasting” or “reddening”.

In the 1950s, the lake was threatened with drying out, as the water level sank due to the increasing extraction of water by means of deep wells for adjacent nurseries. The shore zone was redesigned in 1980 and 1981, when excavation was carried out from an adjacent new residential area. In 1986 a first attempt was made to clear the bottom of the lake. But only with the incorporation of Ruhlsdorf into the city of Teltow were sufficient funds available for an extensive renovation for the 700th anniversary of the community: silt was dredged and the area was freed from wild growth. A ditch was dug around the island, which also serves as a bird breeding area. Furthermore, the pond floor was equipped with a flow to ensure a constant water level. Currently, up to 12,000 cubic meters of water are pumped into the lake every year. The plan is to convert the Röthepfuhl from a stagnant body of water into a flowing water as part of a feasibility study . Purified water from a sewage treatment plant , for example, should be used for this purpose .

Flora and fauna

In a census in 2002 common toads , gray herons , nightingales , mallards and reed warblers were detected. Rushes , rushes, reeds and water lilies grow in the lake . In addition, the sharp buttercup and the wild pansy were identified .
