Rüdiger Oppers
Rüdiger Oppers (born October 15, 1960 in Duisburg ) is a German journalist . From 2007 to 2013 he was editor-in-chief of the Neue Ruhr / Neue Rhein Zeitung (NRZ).
Life
Rüdiger Oppers began his journalistic career in 1977 as a freelancer in the joint editorial team of the Neue Rhein Zeitung and the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Moers . After the end of his work, he started working as a regional correspondent for WDR in Duisburg in 1983. In 1984 he became an editor in the Landesstudio Düsseldorf and, among other things, moderator of the current hour . In 1998 he was promoted to WDR company spokesman. In 2001 and 2002 he also acted as spokesman for ARD .
On March 1, 2007, Oppers moved to the WAZ media group - initially as deputy editor-in-chief of the Neue Ruhr / Neue Rhein Zeitung. On December 1st of the same year he took over the office of editor-in-chief from Richard Kiessler . After the WAZ media group took over the Kevelaerer Blatt on July 1, 2008 , Oppers also became editor-in-chief of this local newspaper on the Lower Rhine, which was founded in 1879 .
Since October 10, 2008, Rüdiger Oppers was also responsible for national and international TV projects and TV participations of the WAZ media group in his role as the management representative for television . He was managing director of the Düsseldorf state broadcaster NRW.TV and chairman of the supervisory board of the national Albanian broadcaster Vizion +.
On January 1, 2014, Oppers was appointed to the Management Board's proxy and head of the “Public Affairs” department at Evonik Industries AG . From December 1, 2014 to April 30, 2016, Rüdiger Oppers headed the communications department of the specialty chemicals company.

Rüdiger Oppers is a volunteer member of the board of the Society of Friends of the German Aerospace Center (GvF), which, as a non-profit organization, aims to provide young, talented scientists with scientific funding.
Oppers is also active as Chancellor of the Grand Priory of Europe in the ecumenical Order of Lazarus with the rank of Knight Commander. This is involved in global humanitarian aid. and operates inpatient care facilities and social stations with outpatient home care with the Lazarus aid organization . In addition, Oppers sits on the board of the sponsorship group for disabled sports of the German disabled sports association . The support group for the disabled was founded in 1997 and has set itself the task of supporting athletes with disabilities.
Oppers is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Society for Combating Cancer Diseases. The Cancer Society of North Rhine-Westphalia eV has been committed to improving care for people with cancer for more than 50 years.
Rüdiger Oppers was also active in freemasonry . When he started working as editor-in-chief of the Neue Ruhr / Neue Rhein Zeitung (NRZ), however, he resigned from his posts on December 1, 2007.
Until he took up his post as NRZ editor-in-chief in 2008, Oppers was chairman of the board of the Moers initiative group . In various working groups, the members of the initiative group develop and support urban design ideas and processes, for example. In June 2008 Rüdiger Oppers handed over the chairmanship to his successor after three terms of office.
Rüdiger Oppers is the second chairman of the “Klartext für Kinder” association. Since January 1, 2011, NRW Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft has been the new patron of the association, which exclusively pursues charitable and non-profit purposes. The aim is to provide socio-educational and economic support to young people and children in need. Klartext für Kinder eV provides individual support. It is about children and young people who live in poverty or whose families are unable to support them economically or socially appropriately.
Rüdiger Oppers is a member of the Bonn Media Club. Among other things, the club initiates exhibitions and has been awarding the “ Bröckemännche Prize ” every year since 2000 to personalities who have made a name for themselves in the Bonn region through nonconformist, courageous behavior.
In 2008, Oppers was honored as a "knight of the pointed pen" by the Lower Rhine FDP district association . Laudator Guido Westerwelle called him “Germany's most beautiful journalist” on this occasion.
Rüdiger Oppers is a member of the German Society for Foreign Policy eV (DGAP), one of the largest German intermediary organizations for questions of international politics and foreign and security policy based in Berlin .
In November 2010 Rüdiger Oppers was awarded the tip pen by the carnivalists in Mülheim an der Ruhr for his special services to free and open speech.
In May 2011, Rüdiger Oppers was elected chairman of the building association for the Moers town church.
In January 2012 Oppers was honored with the Papal Order of Gregory "for his commitment to church, society and the media" .
In March 2012 Rüdiger Oppers received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his exemplary social commitment.
