Rüdiger Pohl (economist)

Rüdiger Pohl (born February 18, 1945 in Jüterbog ) is a German economist and professor emeritus for economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Rüdiger Pohl studied at the Free University of Berlin . His doctorate (1971) and habilitation (1975) took place at the University of Hanover . From 1977 to 1993 he was a professor at the FernUniversität in Hagen . From 1986 to 1994 he was a member of the Expert Council for the assessment of macroeconomic development . From 1989 to 1991 he was also a member of the board of the Rhine-Westphalian Institute for Economic Research in Essen .

In 1993 he accepted a position at Martin Luther University, where he was also President of the Halle Institute for Economic Research from 1994 to 2004 . From 1999 to 2002 he was a member of the Science Council . From 1999 to 2013 he was a member of the Senate of the German National Foundation . His teaching and research areas are monetary theory and policy , as well as the money and capital markets . In 2000 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2003 . He has been retired since April 1, 2010.
