Rüdiger Schmitt (racing driver)

Rüdiger Schmitt (born October 27, 1967 in Würzburg ) is a former German automobile racing driver .

Career

Rüdiger Schmitt began his motorsport career in the Wintershall VW Polo Cup .

From 1987 to 1989 he drove in the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup . He achieved his best performance of the season in the one-make cup in 1988 with third place.

At the same time, he competed in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) with a BMW M3 in 1988 . In the following year he drove a Ford Sierra RS 500 Cosworth from Grab Motorsport and came in 24th at the end of the season.

In 1990 Schmitt competed for the Max-Moritz team in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and was runner-up behind Olaf Manthey . A year later he started again in the one-make cup with a Porsche 911 Carrera 2 - but could not repeat his previous year's success.

In 1992 he drove a Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4 for Wolf Racing in the +2500 displacement class of Group N in the German Touring Car Trophy and won the championship title. The following year he drove a Ford Escort RS Cosworth in the Warsteiner ADAC GT Cup , which he finished with 16th place in the season.

After his appearances in the other racing series, he started again in the DTM in 1994 with a BMW M3 E36 from the WS-DHL team . After several failures, he left the series after four races and ended his racing career at the same time.
