Selaginella denticulata , the toothed moss fern, is a species of the genus moss fern ( Selaginella ) withinthe moss fern family (Selaginellaceae).

Selaginella denticulata is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 0.4 to 10 centimeters. The flat shoots pressed against the ground have four rows of unequal leaves in pairs. Two smaller, adjacent to the stem and one larger, protruding leaflet on each side. The latter is up to 2.5 millimeters long and has fine saw teeth.

The not sharply demarcated sporangia ears are seated. Spore ripening is in April to August.

The number of chromosomes is x = 9; the chromosome number is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

The distribution area includes the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands . Selaginella denticulata usually thrives in fresh, shady locations.
