R. Dale Butts
R. Dale Butts (born March 12, 1910 in Lamsaco, Kentucky , † January 30, 1990 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American film music composer and arranger .
Life
Butt worked from 1928 for 13 years as a pianist and arranger for NBC Radio in Chicago . In 1937 he married actress Dale Evans . The divorce took place in 1945. Starting in 1943, Butts worked for Republic Pictures as music director and composer for more than a decade . At the end of the 1950s he retired from the film business. His work includes more than 100 film productions.
He composed the music for numerous westerns with Roy Rogers in the leading role. He often worked with the director Joseph Kane .
For his work on San Francisco Lilly he was nominated together with Morton Scott for an Oscar in the category Best Film Music in 1946.
Butts was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery .
