The RAFI GmbH & Co. KG is a manufacturer of electromechanical and electronic components and systems for human-machine communication.

history

The company was founded on November 15, 1900 in Ravensburg as an optical, mechanical and electrical engineering institute by Ernst Bucher . At that time the company's business was the development and production of switches and nurse call systems. In 1908 the electrical engineer Ra imund Fi nsterhölzl became the owner of the company, and in 1912 he registered the trademark Rafi , a combination of his initials, with the imperial patent office. In 1935 the name was changed to Elektrotechnische Spezialfabrik Raimund Finsterhölzl and Finsterhölzl's sister Emmy Finsterhölzl became the owner of the company. Finally, in 1947, the company passed to Finsterhölzl's son Werner Raimund Finsterhölzl-Vernière, who renamed it in 1952 as "Rafi" Raimund Finsterhölzl, an electrotechnical specialty factory . Rolf Kreeb became a partner and managing director in 1961.

In 1987 RAFI was taken over by the Hoesch group. In order to be able to produce labor-intensive products competitively, RAFI founded the subsidiary RAFI BBP, now RAFI Hungaria, in Hungary in 1991. After the hostile takeover of Hoesch by Friedrich Krupp AG, the company did not fit into Krupp's strategy, which was shaped by steel. Therefore it was taken over by private shareholders in 1994 and has been growing steadily in the market ever since. Since then, several companies have been founded or taken over.
