Raúl Marrero (singer)

Esteban Raúl Marrero Quiles (born November 15, 1926 in Vilalba ; † October 18, 2018 in Orlando / Florida ) was a Puerto Rican Canto writer .

Marrero grew up with his mother in Caguas. With the song Sin Motivos he took part in a talent competition at the age of ten, and he won first prize at the next competition in Caguas. At the age of seventeen he went to New York, where his first recording with the Trio Los Contnentales appeared the following year . In the next few years he lived mostly in Mexico. While in New York, he sang his own songs in nightclubs and television shows.

In 1965 he released his first LP with his own compositions, Sin Sangre en las Venas , with the hit Sabras . In the following years he distinguished himself primarily as a salsa composer, and his compositions were recorded by numerous musicians, such as La Vecina and La Hija de Lola from Charlie Palmieri's Orchestra with the singer Vitin Aviles and Increible from Ismael Rivera . Tommy Olivencia's orchestra released his versions of Primero Fui Yo , Como la Hace and Te Estoy Estudiando with singer Frankie Ruiz .

Marrero recorded several LPs himself, including Apartamento número dos , La casa , Quien dijo miedo , Vía Nueva York-La Maletica and El señor de la salsa and went on concert tours into old age. He gave his last concert in Colombia at the age of 89.
