The Rabenklippe is a granite rock formation near Bad Harzburg in the Harz Mountains in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

The Rabenklippe is located a few hundred meters west of the border between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt running along the Ecker in the Harz National Park , about 3.5 km (as the crow flies ) southeast of Bad Harzburg. The rocks, which up to just below 554.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain spurs of the Kaltalskopf (approx.  605  m ), drop to the southeast into the forested Eckertal about 200 m lower. The lynx enclosure created by the Harz National Park Administration is located near the cliffs .

Immediately on the Rabenklippe, which became a popular hiking destination in the 19th century, a shelter hut was built in 1874, from which the Waldgasthaus Rabenklippe (approx.  525  m ) emerged.

After the drought of 2018, the bark beetle attacked large areas of spruce forest in the area of ​​the Rabenklippen.

Opportunities for viewing and hiking

A part of the Rabenklippe has been made accessible by stairs. From there, the view among other things, go to the Brocken , down into the Eckertal and located beyond the Eckertals Taubenklippe . The cliff is included as no. 170 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin; the stamp box hangs on the Rabenklippe forest inn.
