Rachel McCleary

Rachel Mary McCleary (born September 29, 1953 ) is an American business philosopher , political scientist and university teacher .

Career, research and teaching

McCleary first studied linguistics and Spanish at Indiana University , which she left in 1974 as a Bachelor of Arts in the direction of Emory University . There she completed a degree in theology as a Master of Arts in 1978. In 1986 she graduated from the University of Chicago with a Ph.D. in political theory and moral philosophy.

McCleary began teaching in 1986 as a visiting professor at Georgetown University . 1989 she became a lecturer at the Faculty of politics of Princeton University . In 1992 she went to the United States Institute of Peace as a program officer , before moving to the Universidad Rafael Landivar for research purposes in 1994 . A year later she returned to Georgetown University. She later went to Johns Hopkins University . In 2001 she followed a call from Harvard University . There she was director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs until 2007 .

McCleary's main focus is on researching the influence of religion on the economy. For this purpose, she works interdisciplinary in the fields of economics , sociology and political science . In particular, she analyzes the relationship between religion and economic growth, political stability and productivity. One of the main research areas has been Guatemala since the early 1990s . In 1994 she worked as a Fulbright Research Scholar in the Central American country, and later commissioned the state government to oversee projects for the Inter-American Development Bank . She worked frequently with Robert J. Barro in the 2000s .
