history

Its predecessor, Radio Förderband , went on the air on December 31, 1983 and was one of the pioneers of local radio in Switzerland. The diverse cultural program was designed by freelancers and groups and broadcast in several languages. Radio Conveyor Belt had no commercial success. In 1985 the moderated program was dispensed with and a year later, with the help of radio pioneer Roger Schawinski , a new start was attempted under the name Bern 104 - Radio Förderband .

The new concept was based on the idea of broadcasting a commercial, majority-enabled music program with a wide range of information during the day, and a varied cultural program for linguistic, musical, cultural and subject-related minorities in the evening. In terms of listeners, Bern 104 - Radio Förderband was never able to reach its local competitor Radio extraBE .

In 1989 the station changed its name again to Radio Förderband, and in 1993 the newspaper company Der Bund took over the station. Various smaller and larger program concept changes up to the year 2000 were unable to free the broadcaster from its uncomfortable situation in the long term. In 2000, the management and subsequently also the board of directors decided to restart with a new direction of the program under a new name: Radio BE1. The station with a completely new program, a new logo and also a new transmission frequency became within a few weeks and has remained the number 1 of Bern's private radio stations ever since; as a result, the station stabilized economically on a sustainable basis.

The new program was distinguished by its closeness to the listener: regular audience surveys ensured that only music was played that corresponded to the taste of the advertising-relevant target group of 15-49 year olds, as well as the amount and type of information presented (news, weather, Traffic, music, culture, consumer and lifestyle information, etc.) were precisely formatted for the target audience. The most important element of the program was the cheerful, four-hour morning show with a lot of service and humor.

On Easter Monday, April 5, 2010 at 6 p.m. the program of Radio BE1 was stopped. Since April 9, 2010, the station Energy Bern , which is part of a worldwide chain of youth radio stations, has been broadcasting on the frequencies of Radio BE1 .
