The Bantiger is a mountain ( 947 m above sea level ) in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The summit is in the area of the municipality of Bolligen . From the Bantiger - almost a hundred meters higher than Bern's local mountain Gurten - you have an all-round panorama with a view of the Bernese Alps and the Jura
history
First of all, as a refuge, it protects the Bernese population. In 1577, a high watch of the old Bern was first mentioned on the mountain. The Hochwachten system was used to raise the alarm in times of impending war; next to the Bantiger, there were these on the Gurten and the Belpberg .
Earlier names were Rietlissberg or Wyssenflu. Bantiger prevailed in 1688 when the Bern War Council instructed Ammann von Bolligen to bring the watch fire into a better condition.
In 1832 the permit for a simple economy was granted.
Television tower
On the Bantiger standing Bantiger TV Tower , a transmission tower of Swisscom . The base is at 941.05 m, the top of the tower at 1128.5 m. At 975.2 m there is a publicly accessible viewing platform.

Tourism and sport
The Bantiger is a mountain for excursions in the Bern agglomeration . It can only be reached on foot, the road connecting it and the transmission tower is subject to a general driving ban. From the "Cholgruebe" car park in Ferenberg near Stettlen , the transmitting station can be reached on foot in 30 minutes (road) or 45 minutes (hiking trail).
The Berner Berglaufcoup ("Bärner Bärgloufcoup") has been held since 2014 at the beginning of August, one stage is a 4.8 km long ascent on the Bantiger, with 400 meters of altitude being overcome.
