Based on the Asociación Nacional de Radiodifusión , founded in 1924 , " EAJ-1 Radio Barcelona" went on air on November 14, 1924 at 6:30 p.m. local time. The first voice was reserved for María Sabater, who after a brief introduction first explained the “EAJ1” in the station name: “EA stands for Spain, J stands for wireless telegraphy and 1 for the number of the radio license.” Although the radio license was 1, it was one does not have Spain's first radio station going on the air, that was " EAJ-2 Radio España de Madrid ", later Radio España , which went on the air four days earlier.

This was followed by a speech by the then Mayor of Barcelona, Darío Rumeu . The first day of broadcasting was also marked by speeches and announcements from various city authorities as well as a concert by the pianist Torné and the cellist Oró.

On April 8, 1928, it was the first radio station to broadcast a football game (here by FC Barcelona ) live; on September 5, 1976 this was first done in Catalan .

1991 began to broadcast as " Radio Barcelona 2" over VHF .

Today, Ràdio Barcelona (broadcasting area: Province of Barcelona ) only broadcasts a few hours a day and then changes to the program of Cadena Ser Catalunya (broadcasting areas: Catalonia , Andorra , Département Pyrénées-Orientales , Franja de Aragón ), which in turn switches to the program of Cadena Ser Connect España (transmission areas: Spain, Portugal and border areas).
