history
The first attempts in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to found a private local radio station were made around the turn of the year 1987/88 in the form of an operational trial to test local radio in Garmisch , initiated by the American hang-glider pilot Mike Harker , Peter Saturday and two other people. This first attempt at operation ended after four weeks on January 10, 1988, because the license was not extended. During this time u. a. the now well-known radio presenters Stephan Lehmann and Stefan Parrisius work for the station.
After the attempt to found a local radio station for the entire Bavarian Oberland failed in the following years, two local stations were finally founded at the end of 1992, which split up this area, Radio Alpenwelle and Radio Oberland.
In September 2014, the broadcaster announced that it would give up the premises at Garmischer Marienplatz, from which the operational trial had already broadcast, and move into a new studio on Olympiastrasse. After the move, the program will now be broadcast digitally from July 1, 2019.
