Raebareli ( Hindi : रायबरेली , Urdu : رائے بریلی; Rāybarelī [ rɑːjbʌˈreːliː ]; also Rae Bareli or Rai Bareli ) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh with around 190,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

It is located 80 km south of Lucknow and 120 kilometers northwest of Prayagraj the River Sai in the region Awadh (Oudh) in Central Uttar Pradesh. The city is the administrative seat of the Raebareli district .

Raebareli owns some important monuments from the time of Islamic rule. In the early 15th century, Ibrahim Shah, the Sultan of Jaunpur , conquered Raebareli. He had the fort renewed and the Friday mosque (Jama Masjid) built. During the Mughal period in the 17th century, the governor Jahan Khan, appointed by Shah Jahan , had a palace and a mausoleum built in the suburb of Jahanabad.

Raebareli is considered the political bastion of the Nehru Gandhi dynasty . Both Feroze Gandhi (1951 and 1957), Indira Gandhi (1967 and 1980), Arun Nehru (1984) and most recently Sonia Gandhi (2004 and 2009) were from the constituency Raebareli in the Lok Sabha elected.
