Rafael Romero

Rafael Romero Sandrea (born May 22, 1938 in Maracaibo ) is a former Venezuelan athlete who took part in the Olympic Games three times.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , Romero was eliminated both over 100 meters and over 200 meters in the lead. Even with the 4 x 100 meter relay, he could not qualify for another round. Four years later, at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Romero reached the quarter-finals both over 100 meters and over 200 meters. The sprint relay with the line-up of Clive Bonas , Lloyd Murad , Emilio Romero and Rafael Romero as the final runners reached the finals and finished fifth. In 1964 in Tokyo , Romero only appeared in the relay. Arquímedes Herrera , Lloyd Murad, Rafael Romero and Hortensio Fucil ran in 39.54 seconds in 6th place.

Ibero-American Games were only played in 1960 and 1962. Romero managed a victory on both sprint routes at both events, with the relay he won gold in 1960 and silver in 1962. With five gold medals, Romero is the most successful participant in the Ibero-American Games together with the Argentinean Osvaldo Suárez .

Rafael Romero won silver over 100 meters and gold over 200 meters at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1962. At the Pan American Games in 1963 Romero won over 200 meters and won silver with the relay.

With a height of 1.78 m, his competition weight was 72 kg.
