Raffaello Morghen (historian)

Raffaello Morghen (born September 19, 1896 in Rome , † May 26, 1983 ibid) was an Italian historian who focused on the history of the Middle Ages.

His academic teacher was Pietro Fedele . Morghen had a Roman lectureship and then worked in Perugia and Palermo. He taught from 1948 until his retirement as the successor to Pietro Fedele as professor of medieval history at the University of Rome . He was also president of the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo from 1953 to 1982 . He was a corresponding member from 1947 and from 1960 as a real member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei . In 1957 he was elected a corresponding member abroad by the Austrian Academy of Sciences . In 1958 he became a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In his studies he mainly dealt with the medieval history of Italy and with Dante . He was editor-in-chief of Nuova Antologia and Rivista Storica Italiana . In 1953 he became president of the "Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medioevo".
