Rafi Lüderitz

Rafi Lüderitz (born June 19, 1930 in Berlin ; † November 30, 1968 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a drummer and pianist of swing and modern jazz .

Lüderitz became a self-taught boogie woogie pianist in 1946 , played in US soldiers' clubs and moved to Frankfurt / Main in 1948. In 1953 he moved to Paris, played in Christian Kellens' band as a drummer and from then on devoted himself to this instrument. He worked as a drummer in Bill Coleman's band in Paris , and back in Germany he was with the trad jazz band “Two Beat Stompers” and with Attila Zoller . In 1958 Lüderitz moved to the United States and played there with Kenny Burrell , Coleman Hawkins , Roy Eldridge , Horace Parlan , Houston Person , Lou Donaldson and Ted Curson . In 1965, back in Germany, he joined the band of Klaus Doldinger , then Hans Koller . With him he recorded the MPS album "Relax with My Horns" (1966) as a trio . In the same year the organ jazz album “From twen with Love” by Ingfried Hoffmann's band was released, in which Lüderitz formed the rhythm section together with Peter Trunk . Also in 1966 Lüderitz took part in the recordings for the music for the Will Tremper film Playgirl . Under the direction of Peter Thomas , Ingfried Hoffmann (Hammond organ), Peter Trunk (bass) and Klaus Doldinger (saxophone) can also be heard on the soundtrack released on a Philips LP. Lüderitz was also involved in Emil Mangelsdorff 's recordings .
