Rafiki is a German ska-punk band from Ostheim vor der Rhön in Lower Franconia and was founded in 2002. Rafiki played the last gig on December 27, 2019.

history

In 2002 the five school friends Bastian Reukauf ("Reu Rakete"), Lorenz Hüttner, Stefan Burkhardt ("Spritus"), Andreas Dietz and Felix Hoch founded the ska-punk band Rafiki.

One year after it was founded, Rafiki released her first dance music album , which was produced and marketed entirely in-house. Stylistically, they moved more in the German rock and punk area with a Ska influence. There were mainly concerts in the Rhön-Grabfeld region .

In 2005 Rafiki produced the EP Kein Sklave and a year later the album Mit Pauken und Trumpeten . The latter was released by the label "Bad Land Records" from Munich. Since then, the band has also been traveling nationwide to give concerts.

In 2008 the Franconians recorded their EP Ich bremse nicht für Bosse in the Farida Studio near Bremen . This did not go on sale and was only intended for promotional purposes. With the admission, the band found accommodation with the renowned booking agency "Extratours" and received good reviews from the specialist press.

Shortly afterwards, trombonist Felix Hoch left the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Sebastian Stäblein ("Wulf").

2009 was a very turbulent year for the band. The album Ich bremse nicht für Bosse was recorded in several attempts . This complements the EP of the same name to a complete album and, like the EP, was produced in the Farida Studio near Bremen. Shortly after the recording was over, drummer Stefan Burkhardt ("Spritus") had to leave the band due to an internal dispute. However, a replacement could be found quickly and so Michael Haubner ("Michl") took over the role of drummer. A new rehearsal room also had to be found because of the argument. Musically things continued to improve. "Rat Trap" from Trier became the new booking agency and several record labels showed interest in Rafiki. The band decided on the Hamburg record company "Rotlicht Records", which released the new CD Ich bremse nicht für Bosse under the distribution of "Broken Silence".

Rafiki now gives concerts all over Germany and is a constant in the German ska-punk scene. The band played with several well-known bands such as Mad Caddies , Less Than Jake , Rage , Slut , Itchy Poopzkid , Jennifer Rostock , Rantanplan and Dr. Ring thing .

style

The content of the German texts is broad, and social conditions are often criticized. It does this in a very cynical and humorous way. This is clear from the title of the 2010 album “I don't brake for bosses”. In connection with the distinctive voice of the singer Bastian Reukauf ("Reu Rakete") and the brass sections, the unmistakable style of the band results.
