Claus Raidl (2015)

Claus Josef Raidl (born November 6, 1942 in Kapfenberg , Styria ) is an Austrian manager . From September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2018 he was President of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank .

Life

After graduating with distinction in 1961, Raidl studied economics at the University of World Trade in Vienna. He also graduated from Duxbury High School in Massachusetts , USA . In 1966 he graduated as a business graduate and in 1971 he received his doctorate in commercial science. During his studies Raidl was chairman of the main committee of the ÖH at the University of World Trade. Claus J. Raidl has been Vice President of the European Forum Alpbach since March 20, 2012 .

In 1970 he began his professional activity as an assistant at the Institute for Applied Social and Economic Research. After further positions at banks and insurance companies, Claus Raidl became a member of the ÖIAG board in 1982 . Management positions at VOEST-Alpine and Austrian Industries followed . From 1991 to 2010 Raidl was CEO of Böhler-Uddeholm AG .

On May 21, 2008, Raidl was appointed as the new Chairman (President) of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank on September 1, 2008 and was reappointed on September 1, 2013. In August 2018 it was announced that Harald Mahrer would succeed him as President of the General Council of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank on September 1, 2018 .

In addition, Claus J. Raidl was represented on several supervisory boards, including a. at the Vienna Stock Exchange and Donau Versicherung , and from 2001 to 2006 President of the Austrian University Council (FHR). He is a federally appointed member of the Institute for Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) and has also been Vice President of the European Forum Alpbach since 2012 . Raidl is an original member of both the Catholic Austrian student association Norika zu Waidhofen / Ybbs in the MKV and the Catholic academic association Bajuvaria Vienna in the Cartell Association ÖCV and was discussed several times as Minister of Economics for the ÖVP .

He is married and has three sons.

Raidl published articles in compilations and economic articles on questions of the economic order, industrial policy, problems of tax and budget policy and the opportunities of Austria as a business location.
