Raimondo della Torre († February 23, 1299 ) was Bishop of Como and from 1273 Patriarch of Aquileia .
Life
Raimondo della Torre was a son of Pagano della Torre from the Milanese patrician family Torriani . Della Torre was Archpriest of Monza from 1251 to 1262 . As a member of the Guelphs , he took the chair of the Archbishop of Milan from 1261 to 1262 , but was never confirmed in his office because Pope Urban IV appointed his opponent Ottone Visconti as archbishop. In 1262 della Torre was made Bishop of Como . On 21 December 1273 he was selected by Pope Gregory X to the Patriarch of Aquileia appointed. As a result, Aquileia and Friuli became a place of refuge for the Torriani family members who, as leaders of the Guelfs , had to flee from Milan in 1277 due to the defeat against the Visconti family . From this point on, the Torrianis expanded their sphere of influence and influence in Friuli and the neighboring areas.
In 1283 della Torre allied itself with Treviso , Padua , Trieste , Genoa and Albert I of Gorizia and went to war against the Republic of Venice , which increasingly expanded its supremacy in Istria . The conflict lasted until 1291. During this time della Torre raised taxes many times over and obliged all men between the ages of 18 and 60 to go to war. With his renunciation of the last episcopal control over the organs of the people's representation, the municipality of Trieste became a free city in 1295 .
Della Torre was buried in the Basilica of Aquileia in 1299 .
