Raimund wishes

Raimund Wünsche (* 1944 in Eichstätt ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Wish is the son of the artist Alois Wünsche-Mitterecker . After graduating from high school, she studied classical archeology, art history and ancient history at the universities in Salzburg and Munich . In 1970 he received his doctorate in Munich with the thesis "Studies on Aeginetic Ceramics of the Early and Middle Bronze Age".

In the same year he became a research assistant at the Glyptothek and the Staatliche Antikensammlungen in Munich. In 1974/75 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . He later became deputy director there and was its chief director from 1994 to April 2011.

Wish was involved in various excavations, such as the Temple of Aphaia on the Greek island of Aegina , in Lefkandi on Euboea and on Naxos . He is honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

In 2006, Wünsche was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit for his services .
