Raimundas Vaikšnoras (born July 12, 1970 in Druskininkai ) is a Lithuanian brigadier general . He has been in command of the Lithuanian Army since July 24, 2019 .

Life

Military career

Promotions

With the regaining of state independence, Raimundas Vaikšnoras came to the defense forces of the restituting Lithuania in 1991, from which the armed forces of the country developed. He decided to train as an officer and attended various military academies in other European countries as well as the Lithuanian Military Academy in Vilnius . Later, from 2012 to 2013, he studied at the United States Army War College , from which he graduated with a master's in strategic studies .

Vaikšnoras served in the Lithuanian army in various positions at home and abroad and gradually rose to the top. In 2007 he took command of Grand Duke Gediminas' staff battalion. From 2010 he worked at the headquarters of the land forces. He then headed the Iron Wolf Infantry Brigade ( Geležinis Vilkas ) from July 2013 to January 2016 .

In January 2018 he took on the duties of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and was promoted to Brigadier General by Dalia Grybauskaitė in the same year . After Vitalijus Vaikšnoras' retirement due to old age , he initially took over his post as Chief of Staff in April 2019, until he was appointed commander of the Lithuanian Army on July 24, 2019.

Raimundas Vaikšnoras is married and has three children (two daughters and one son).
