Rainald I (Nevers)

Rainald I ( Renaud I ) (* around 1000; † May 29, 1040 near Seignelay ) from the House of Monceaux was Count of Nevers from 1028 .

Life

Rainald was the son of Count Landry von Nevers and Mathilde von Burgund, a daughter of Count Palatine Otto Wilhelm of Burgundy . Shortly after January 25, 1016 ( Gregorian calendar ) he married Adele of France (* probably 1003; † June 5 after 1063), the eldest daughter of the French King Robert II , to whom the county of Auxerre was given as a dowry .

Rainald was killed in a fight against Duke Robert I of Burgundy and buried in the Abbey of Saint-Germain in Auxerre .

Rainald and Adele's children were:

  2. The Origine et Historia Brevi Nivernensium Comitum ( RHGF , Volume XI, p. 281) reports that he was killed "apud Saigniacum" (near Seignelay); Schwennicke and others mention Sainte-Vertu . The two places are about 40 km apart.
