Rainer-Michael Munz

Rainer-Michael Munz (* 1947 in Meßkirch ) is a German church musician and emeritus professors .

Life

Munz studied church music in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau (A-exam). In 1976 he won the Knechtsteden International Organ Improvisation Competition . From 1972 to 1974 he worked as a cantor in Kenzingen , in 1974 he moved to the Markuskirche in Freiburg and in 1976 to Wildeshausen . From 1976 to 1989 he was also an organ expert for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg . In 1985 he was 1st prize winner of the German Choir Competition with the Demantius Choir Oldenburg . From 1989 until his retirement in 2013 he was a church musician at the St. Nikolaikirche in Kiel, and in 1999 he was appointed church music director . From 1989 until his retirement he was professor for organ improvisation at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . Munz lives in the area around Kiel, where he still works as an organist.
