Lojsta Church
The Church of Lojsta ( Swedish Lojsta kyrka ) is a country church on the Swedish island of Gotland . It belongs to the parish ( Swedish socks ) Lojsta , the parish ( Swedish församling ) Lojsta and the pastorate Fardhem in the Diocese of Visby .
location
The church is located in the southern interior of Gotland on road 142 from Visby to Hemse . It is located 37 km south of Visby, 14 km southeast of Klintehamn and 9 km north of Hemse.
Church building
The nave and the choir were built in the middle of the 13th century, the tower was built in the first half of the 14th century. The nave is rectangular, the choir just closing off is slightly narrower than the nave and the tower of the same width. The church has white plastered walls, but the edges are made of finely hewn, exposed limestone . The tower has side galleries in the north and south and sound openings provided with columns.
inner space
The windows in the choir all have the original glass paintings from the 13th century. The altarpiece is from the 14th century, the font from the 12th century. The triumphal cross is more recent, but was made by an artist in the style of the 12th century. Many wooden sculptures from the 13th – 15th centuries. Century that were in this church are now kept in the Historical Museum in Stockholm.
Murals
The church has beautiful wall paintings from the 13-16 centuries. Century. On the north wall there is a well-preserved frieze of the Passion Master . The ornaments and pictures are an example of the medieval wall paintings on Gotland .
