Rainer Bartel (born October 25, 1957 in Linz ) is a lecturer in economics and a consultant for basic scientific work in the Upper Austrian provincial government.

After attending elementary school in the Froschberg he visited the modern language school at the Theresian Academy in Vienna, where he with distinction graduated . After his military service as a one-year volunteer , he was promoted to captain of the reserve in the years that followed . Bartel studied economics and then social and economic sciences from 1977 at the University of Linz , in the latter subject he received his doctorate in 1989 on the topic of organizational size and efficiency , the habilitation ( central public financial control as economic efficiency control ) followed in 1994. In the same year Bartel became a lecturer and associate professor University professor at the Institute for Economics at the University of Linz. From 2004 to 2009 he was on leave of absence to work as a consultant for basic scientific work in the Upper Austrian Government.

Bartels research focuses on methodological and paradigmatic foundations as well as general aspects and sub-areas of economic policy, efficiency in the public and private sector, central public financial control, budget policy, environmental policy, employment economics and regional economics.

Since 1987 he has been working on a voluntary basis at HOSI Linz , a. a. since 1994 in the advisory group and at times in the media library, was its chairman from 1994 to 2002 and has been financial officer there since 2007. Since 2000 he has also been on the board of the PRIDE magazine sponsoring association .

Bartel was a company commander in the Landwehr and a trainer of the fencing section in the SK Voest. Together with his partner, the actor, singer and director Karl M. Sibelius, he has been raising his adopted daughter since 2005.
