Rainer Christoph Friedrich of Hesse
Rainer Christoph Friedrich Prince of Hesse (born November 18, 1939 in Kronberg im Taunus ) is a German historian and director.
family
Rainer von Hessen is the son of Christoph von Hessen , who died in a plane crash in 1943, and Sophie of Greece (1914–2001), daughter of Andreas of Greece (1882–1944), and a grandson of Friedrich Karl von Hessen . He is also the nephew of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and thus cousin of Prince Charles , Princess Anne , Prince Andrew and Prince Edward .
Director
He received his training as an assistant director from 1960 with Gustav Rudolf Sellner at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and with August Everding at the Münchner Kammerspiele . From 1962 he worked as a director at the Ulm Theater and from 1966 at the Kassel State Theater . Here he staged Lysistrata by Aristophanes in collaboration with Niki de Saint Phalle . This resulted in other projects, including the sculpture house ensemble by Le Rêve de l'Oiseau in Plan-de-la-Tour , in the Var department , which has been protected as a French national cultural heritage ( Patrimoine national ) since 2007 .

As a historian, he has made a name for himself in the history of his own family , especially through historical source editions . He also sponsored the work of Jonathan Petropoulos , Royals and the Reich , in which the involvement of the House of Hesse in the Third Reich is analyzed. Rainer von Hessen has been a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 1993 .
Others
Rainer von Hessen is a board member of the Hessian House Foundation . He lived for a long time near Paris , today in Wolfsgarten Castle near Darmstadt .
