Rainer Einenkel

Rainer Einenkel (born May 20, 1954 in Thum , Zschopau district , GDR ) was Chairman of the Works Council of the Opel plant in Bochum until January 12, 2015 and a member of the Adam Opel AG Supervisory Board until March 31, 2015 .

Life

Einenkel was born in Thum near Zschopau in Saxony. In 1961 his family came to the Ruhr area a month before the Wall was built . His father was a committed trade unionist . Einenkel senior worked in the new plant in 1962, where the first Opel Kadetts rolled off the assembly line. In 1972, 18-year-old Einenkel became one of more than 20,000 Opel employees at the time. He began an apprenticeship as a high-voltage electrician. In 1973 the trainees elected him to the youth and trainee representative in Bochum . Father and son went to shift together until 1990. Since 1988 he has been one of the elected exempt works councils. He was later deputy chairman of the works council . In 2004 he was elected by the works council as chairman of the works council at the Bochum plant. In the works council, 23 of 37 works council members elected him as works council chairman.

Einenkel became known beyond the boundaries of the company through the discussion about the closure of the Bochum Opel plant since 2004. In connection with the fight against the plant closure, Einenkel was a guest at various talk shows.

Einenkel was a member of the DKP until 1988 .

Rainer Einenkel is married and has three children.
