Rainer Hering

Rainer Hering (born June 25, 1961 in Hamburg ) is a German archivist and historian .

He studied history , Protestant theology and educational science and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD and habilitation at the Department of Philosophy and History at the University of Hamburg . From 1987 to 2006 he worked as an archivist (head of the specialist department and deputy head of the office) at the Hamburg State Archives . Since October 2006 he has been in charge of the Schleswig-Holstein State Archives . He is chairman of the Archive Committee of the German Studies Association and since 2007 Professor of Modern History and Archive Studies in the History Department at the University of Hamburg.
