Rainer T. Hermann (born June 15, 1956 in Lörrach ) is a German scholar of Islam and journalist .

Life

Rainer Hermann studied economics, from the third semester also Islamic studies (Arabic, Persian, Turkish) at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau , the University of Rennes 2 , the University of Basel and in Damascus . In Freiburg he took his degree in economics and was awarded a doctorate in 1989 by Werner Ende with a thesis on Muhammad Kurd Ali and modern Syrian intellectual history. phil. PhD .

Hermann worked as an editor at the Federal Office for Foreign Trade Information (BfAI) in Cologne . In 1990, at the time of the Iraqi invasion, he was a correspondent in Kuwait . From 1991 he was the BfAI correspondent in Istanbul . He kept his place of work when he joined the business department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) in 1998 . In 2008 he moved to Abu Dhabi as a correspondent for the FAZ . In 2012 he returned to the political department of the central editorial office of the FAZ in Frankfurt am Main, where he continues to work with a focus on the Middle East and the Islamic world.

Hermann is the author of six books on Turkey and the Arab world.
