Rainer Kößling
Rainer Kößling (born September 28, 1936 in Grimma ) is a German classical philologist , Germanist and translator . Until his retirement in 2001 he was professor for older German and Latin literature of the Middle Ages and the early modern period at the University of Leipzig .
Career
Kößling studied in Leipzig and from 1960 was an assistant at the Institute for Classical Philology there. He worked on several lexicon projects, including the " Lexicon of Antiquity " created at the Central Institute for Ancient History and Archeology . After the political change he became professor at the Leipzig Institute for German Studies in 1992. He was a DAAD appraiser and liaison professor for the German National Academic Foundation . In 1997 he received the Theodor Frings Prize from the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
