Rainer Schulze

Rainer Schulze (* 1946 in Wernigerode ) is a German bookseller, local politician, singer and cabaret artist.

Life

Schulze grew up in Wernigerode and was a member of the radio youth choir as a student . Since 1965 he has been working in Jüttner's bookstore on Westernstrasse , which has been family-owned since 1908. In 1977 he took over the management of the business. In addition, Schulze ran cabaret together with Wolfgang Stumph and Wolfgang Schaller . Since 1989 he has been the publisher of the fortnightly magazine Neue Wernigeröder Zeitung .

He is one of the founding members of the Wernigerode Art and Culture Association. He has been a member of the Wernigerode City Council for the SPD since 1994 and was parliamentary group chairman from 1998 to 2016.

In 2012 he was appointed honorary managing director of the Ilsenburg Abbey Foundation. Schulze is chairman of the board of the Wernigerode Cultural Foundation, which bought the Liebfrauenkirche in Wernigerode in 2018 to use it as a concert church.

In 1987 Schulze was one of three artists from the GDR who were allowed to take part in the first songs on a summer evening in Bavaria. He was also represented again at the 25th anniversary in 2011 .
