Shevchenko Raion (Ukrainian Шевченківський район / Shevtschenkiwskyj rajon ; Russian Шевченковский район / Shevchenkovsky rajon ) is a former Stadtrajon of the city of Chernivtsi in Chernivtsi Oblast in the Ukraine .
The Rajon covers the southwestern part of the urban area of Chernivtsi (south of the Prut and from the eastern Stadtrajon Perschotrawnewe separated by the trunk road M 19 ) and was founded on January 4, 1965. The current name was only given on July 9, 2003 in honor of the Ukrainian national poet Taras Shevchenko , until then it was called Lenin Raion . On March 26, 2015 the Chernivtsi City Council liquidated.
The Rajon includes the following former suburbs and districts: western Inner City, Roscha ( Роша , formerly German Rosch ), Stynka ( Стинка ), Klokutschka ( Клокучка ) and Manasteryska.
