Ralf Michelfelder (born July 12, 1960 ) has been President of the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office since August 2015 . His predecessor was Dieter Schneider .

Life

Ralf Michelfelder began his career in the Baden-Württemberg police force in 1981 after graduating from high school in his hometown of Backnang / Baden-Württemberg. After completing his training, he began his career on patrol at the Waiblingen police station and later switched to the criminal police. In 1990, as the best in his year, he graduated from the University of Police in Villingen-Schwenningen with a degree in administrative management and was promoted to the higher-level police enforcement service .

In 1995 he completed his master's degree in "Public Administration - Police Management" at the German Police University in Münster / Westphalia and moved to the higher police force of the Baden-Württemberg police force. Between 1995 and 1999 he was head of Inspection 520 (operational tasks) of the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office . From 1999 to 2005 he headed Division 32 in the Ministry of the Interior and was Deputy State Criminal Director. During this time he headed various support programs of the EU to bring EU candidate countries closer to the Schengen-Aquis, the legal norms of the EU. In 2005 he became the youngest head of a Baden-Württemberg police department and headed the police department in Waiblingen until 2014. During this time (2014–2015) he was also a member of the study commission “Consequences from the series of murders of the National Socialist Underground (NSU) / Development of right-wing extremism in Baden-Württemberg - Recommendations for action for the state parliament and civil society ”.

As part of the implementation of the police reform in Baden-Württemberg, he was entrusted with setting up the new Aalen police headquarters (Ostalbkreis, Rems-Murr-Kreis, Schwäbisch Hall district), and was appointed police chief on January 1, 2014. On August 15, 2015, he was appointed President of the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office.

In his new position he has 1,178 employees and a budget of € 61,167,000. Michelfelder is married and has two grown children.

Act

One of his most spectacular missions was the Winnenden rampage on March 11, 2009, in which a 17-year-old schoolboy shot 15 people, including 9 schoolchildren. Here he had to coordinate over 800 police officers. In the same year he led the raid in the Pussy Club Fellbach, a flat rate brothel whose operators were sentenced to several years imprisonment for human trafficking. Michelfelder was also the head of operations in the fire disaster in Backnang . A 40-year-old mother and seven of her ten children died in the devastating wildfire in 2013.

In view of the murder of a 19-year-old student in Freiburg in autumn 2016, Michelfelder called for the expansion of DNA analyzes.
