Ralf Sturm (born October 18, 1968 in Cologne ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Ralf Sturm is the son of the Cologne player legend Hans Sturm , who won two German championships with 1. FC Köln in 1962 and 1964 . Ralf was with 1. FC Köln from an early age and the club had high hopes for the attacking talent when he made the jump to Christoph Daum's Bundesliga team in 1988 . Hopes seemed to be fulfilled in 1990 and 1991 when Sturm became a regular. However, the popular striker did not make good progress in the following years and he left professional business due to a serious knee injury (cartilage damage) in 1994. By 1994 he had a total of 121 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln and scored 28 goals. Sturm played from 1994 in the regional league for Wuppertaler SV and switched to league rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen during the 1996/97 season , which he left after the end of the season.

Sturm also played in the German U-16 national team and was part of the German squad there at the U-16 World Cup in 1985 in China, where the team made it to the final, but there with 0: 2 against Nigeria lost and finished second. Later he also completed a total of four U-21 international matches for the U-21 national team .
