Ralph Dacre, 1st Baron Dacre

Ralph Dacre, 1st Baron Dacre also Randolf de Dacre (* around 1290 at Haworth Castle , Yorkshire  , † before April 20, 1339 ) was an English military man and politician.

Family and career

Dacre was born to Sir William de Dacre and his wife Joan Gernet. Around 1315 he married Margaret de Multon, daughter of Thomas de Multon, Lord Multon. With her he had three sons. Between 1318 and 1338 he was a member of the armed forces of the English crown. During this time he took part in several battles in Scotland in the army of Edward II . In recognition of his military services, he was appointed to the English Parliament by Writ of Summons on May 15, 1321 and was thus given the hereditary title of Baron Dacre . In 1330 he was also appointed sheriff of Cumberland , an office he held until 1335. In the same year Edward III appointed him . also to the constable of Carlisle Castle . After his death, the family property first passed to his wife and, after her death, to his sons. His eldest son William inherited the title .
