Ralph S. Hurst (born March 10, 1907 in Indiana , † February 20, 1972 in Sherman Oaks , California ) was an American production designer .

Life

Sullivan began his career on the film staff in 1937 as assistant in the props on the set of Norman Foster's crime film Mr. Moto and the China Treasure with Peter Lorre in the title role. By 1950 he had worked on over 20 feature films, including Battle in the Clouds , Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and Speed ​​Boats in front of Bataan . In 1957 he was nominated for the literary film Giganten together with Boris Leven for the Oscar in the category best production design, but that year the award went to the musical film The King and Me . His other films include John Sturges ' Hemingway film The Old Man and the Sea , the John Wayne Western Rio Bravo and Peter Yates ' action film Bullitt .

Hurst first worked for television in 1956 and switched between film and television until his death in 1972. His engagements included mainly television series, including the western series Maverick , Sugarfoot , Lawman and Cheyenne , as well as the crime series Hawaiian Eye and 77 Sunset Strip .
