Raluca Turcan

Raluca Turcan (born April 2, 1976 in Botoșani ) is a Romanian economist and politician as well as Deputy Prime Minister of Romania .

Life

The daughter of Dumitru and Maria-Margareta Tatarcan was born in Botoșani . After school she studied at the Bucharest Business Academy and from 1996 to 1999 at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow .

From 2000 to 2004 she was a parliamentarian in the Romanian Senate and from 2000 to 2006 she was an associate professor at the University of Transylvania Brașov and at the Romanian-German University . From 2002 to 2004 she was also an advisor to the former Prime Minister Theodor Stolojan . After the party committee from the Partidul National Liberal (PNL) she joined the newly founded Partidul Liberal Democrat (PLD).

In 2007 she became Vice President of the PLD. In December 2007 the Partidul Liberal Democrat merged with the Partidul Democrat to form Partidul Democrat Liberal (PDL). Subsequently she was Vice President of the PDL from December 2007 to May 2011 and from June 2012 to 2014.

Following the resignation of Alina Gorghiu , Turcan was interim president of the PNL from December 21, 2016 to June 17, 2017. On June 17, 2017, Ludovic Orban was elected as the new party chairman. Since November 4, 2019, she has been Deputy Prime Minister in the Ludovic Orban I and Ludovic Orban II Cabinets .

Raluca Turcan has been married to Valeriu Turcan since 2004 and has one son.
